2002
PROMISING SCIENTIST AWARD

The sixth European workshop on "Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physics", held in Sofia, Bulgaria, in April, 2001, saw the award of the first "QSCP Promising Scientist Prize". Administered by the "Centre de Mecanique Ondulatoire Appliquee" (CMOA), this prize will be awarded annually at QSCP workshops. The 2002 award was announced at the banquet dinner of QSCP-VI in Sofia and nominations were invited. The 2002 prize will be awarded at the banquet dinner of QSCP-VII in Slovakia.
Whilst we believe that our older participants still have considerable promise, we would expect candidates to be typically, but not necessarily, under forty years of age. Equally, given the disparity of funding opportunities, we would expect candidates to come from developing countries such as Africa, South Asia, South America and Eastern, or perhaps Southern, Europe. If the criteria of "scientific and human endeavour and achievement" are not met by candidates from these countries then nominees from other countries will be considered. Proposed nominees must intend to attend the Congress.
The selected nominees will be announced by the Chairman of the Selection Committee and the prize will be awarded by the President of CMOA to the first of the selected nominees present at the Congress during a ceremony at the Congress Banquet. THERE WILL BE NO AWARD IN ABSTENTIA. Other selected nominees will receive a certificate in recognition of their nomination together with a gift from CMOA.
Nominations can be made by any established scientist who has attended one or more of the previous QSCP workshops. Nominations, which should include a short curriculum vitae, should be submitted by e-mail to quantum@rl.ac.uk as soon as possible. The applications will be considered during the organizers meeting which is scheduled for April 2002 in Bratislava.
