Welcome to Spetses and QSCP VIII.
Please read the following and keep it in mind:
Water potability: Tap water in the hotel rooms is not guaranteed to be safe to drink. You are best advised to purchase bottled water from grocery stores for use between meals or during the night. To the best of our knowledge, the closest such store is 5 to 7 minutes walk in the direction of the town, across from Spetses Hotel.
Meals schedule: Breakfast: 8:00 - 10:30, lunch: 14:00 - 15:30, dinner 21:00 - 22:30. Coffee breaks served in the conference room: 11:00 - 11:30 and 18:00 - 18:30.
Bottled water or soft and alcoholic beverages consumed during meals and ordered individually are to be paid by the individual.
Telephones: Charges incurred by phone calls placed from rooms should be covered by each hotel resident upon check-out. Dial 0 to reach the front desk and 9 to place an outgoing call.
Swimming in the pool or at the beach (there are two beaches very close to the hotel) can take place most conveniently during lunch break before the meal. Keep in mind that swimming on a full stomach can be very dangerous. There may be no life guard on duty at the beaches.
Bus service to town runs at 9:15, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30, 14:30, 17:30, 18:30, 19:30, 20:30, 21:30, 22:30, 23:30, 00:30, 1:30, starting the round trip from the harbor and passing by the hotel in the direction of the town about 20 minutes later. The bus stop is at the hotel gate. One-way fare is one euro per person. The same distance on foot takes 20 to 25 minutes.
The excursion on Tuesday is free of charge, but advance registration is required. The tentative plan calls for a tour of the archaeological site of Epidaurus with the famous ancient, open-air theater, and a visit to the town of Nafplion, a homeric site with medieval fortresses and an interesting history as a former capital of Greece in the 1830s.
Another attraction, which can be arranged for people not attending the lectures, is the tour of the island by boat which takes about 2 hours with a few stops along the way.
Posters can be placed on the stands in the conference room at any time using tacks or tape provided by the organizers.
Internet access is available through the computers by the entrance of the conference room. Please ask for instructions on how to connect to the network and what software to use for your needs.
