From: qscp8@chem.uoa.gr To: quantum@rl.ac.uk Bcc: qscp8_mailing_list Subject: QSCP VIII 2nd Announcement Dear colleagues, This message is sent to relevant mailing lists and individuals who have asked to be informed about the 8th European Workshop on Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physics. This workshop will be held on Spetses Island in Greece between the 30th of August and the 4th of September, 2003. As stated in the first announcement and in the workshop homepage (http://jupiter.chem.uoa.gr/qscp8/), this Workshop, like those held in Pisa (1996), Oxford (1997), Granada (1998), Paris (1999), Uppsala (2000), Sofia (2001) and Bratislava (2002), will bring together chemists and physicists interested in many-body quantum systems in the molecular and material sciences. The emphasis will be on innovative theory, its computational realization, and applications. The Workshop will include sessions on: * Density matrices and density functionals * Electron correlation treatments: many-body methods and configuration interaction * Relativistic formulations and effects * Valence theory: chemical bonds and bond breaking * Nuclear motion: vibronic effects, flexible molecules * Response theory: properties and spectra; atoms and molecules in strong electric and magnetic fields * Condensed matter: clusters and crystals, surfaces and interfaces * Reactive collisions and chemical reactions * Computational chemistry, biochemistry and chemical physics A list of 93 people who have expressed interest in participating is provided at the end of this message. This message is to inform you on details about deadlines, payment procedures, poster guidelines. First, in case you are interested in participating at the workshop, please make sure you have submitted the on-line registration form. PAYMENTS Fees have been set as follows: * The workshop registration fee has been set to € 575.00. This fee covers full room (double occupancy) and board for the duration of the workshop and lecture material and beverages. * Participants wishing to have a room to themselves will need to pay € 650.00. * Accompanying adults will be asked to pay € 400.00 for room and board. These fees should be paid to the organising Committee before the 30th of June 2003. After this date an additional charge of € 50.00 will be required. Payment can be made either by personal or bank check or preferably by money transfer to a bank account provided below. Checks should be made out to Aristides Mavridis and should be sent to: QSCP VIII c/o A. Mavridis P. O. Box 64 004 Zografou GR-15710 Athens Greece Money transfers should be made to: Alpha Bank, Greece Account holder: A. Payment on location will have to be made in cash. Several banks with automatic teller machines (ATMs) have branches on the island. TALKS AND POSTERS Participants who wish to give a 15 or 25 minute talk or present a poster should provide a title via e-mail (qscp8@chem.uoa.gr) as soon as possible. If many people wish to speak, some will be asked to present their work as a poster. If this is not an option for some participants, please indicate so. An abstract will also be required so it can be included in the abstract book to be distributed upon arrival at the workshop. A sample abstract is available at the workshop home page (http://jupiter.chem.uoa.gr/qscp8/QSCP8-abstract-sample.doc). You are asked to preserve the format and most importantly to not exceed the one page limit. Abstracts should be submitted as e-mail attachments before the 15th of July. Travel instructions and suggestions, contact and other useful information can be found at the workshop webpage (http://jupiter.chem.uoa.gr/qscp8/). Please note that this is the last announcement scheduled for wide distribution. Further announcements, if needed, will be sent only to the people who have expressed such interest via the on-line registration. warm regards, A.
