Subject: Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physic workshop Date: Tue, 15 Oct 2002 11:07:37 +0100 (BST) From: quantum@rl.ac.uk To: quantum@rl.ac.uk FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT Eighth European Workshop on QUANTUM SYSTEMS IN CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS 30th August-4th September, 2003 Lefka Palace Hotel, The Island of Spetses, Greece ------------------------------------------------------------------- International Scientific Organizing Committee : E. Brandas (University of Uppsala) and H. Agren (The Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden) P. Carsky (Heyrovsky Institute, Prague, Czech Republic) I. Hubac (Comenius University, Slovakia) J. Maruani (C.N.R.S., Paris, France) A. Mavridis (University of Athens, Greece) Y.G. Smeyers (C.S.I.C., Madrid, Spain) S. Wilson (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxon, England) Local Organizing Committee : Aristides Mavridis (University of Athens) Thanos Tsekouras (University of Athens) Aristotle Papakondylis (University of Athens) Andreas Theophilou (National Center for Scientific Research, Demokritos) Constantine Tsipis (University of Thessaloniki) Secreterial support: Ioanna Molinou This Workshop, like those held in Pisa (1996), Oxford (1997), Granada (1998), Paris (1999), Uppsala (2000), Sofia (2001) and Bratislava (2002), will bring together chemists and physicists interested in many-body quantum systems in the molecular and material sciences. The emphasis will be on innovative theory, its computational realization, and applications. The Workshop will include sessions on : * Density matrices and density functionals * Electron correlation treatments: many-body methods and configuration interaction * Relativistic formulations and effects * Valence theory: chemical bonds and bond breaking * Nuclear motion: vibronic effects, flexible molecules * Response theory: properties and spectra; atoms and molecules in strong electric and magnetic fields * Condensed matter: clusters and crystals, surfaces and interfaces * Reactive collisions and chemical reactions * Computational chemistry, biochemistry and chemical physics It is planned to publish the Proceedings of the Workshop in the Kluwer series "Progress in Theoretical Chemistry and Physics". In 2003 the QSCP workshop (QSCP-VIII) will be held on the Island of Spetses, Greece. Spetses is located in the Saronic gulf about 60 nautical miles from Athens. It can be reached by hydrofoil (about 2 hours) which departs frequently from Piraeus harbour. A ferry boat also departs daily at 8.00a.m. from Piraeus (about 5 hours). Spetses can be reached by car via Corinth and Porto Heli. Cars are not permitted on Spetses but water taxis are available to and from Porto Heli and Costa. QSCP-VIII will be held at Lefka Palace Hotel, Spetses. Details are given on the workshop web page (see below). The total cost of attending the workshop, including registration, hotel accommodation and full board, will be approximately:- 650 euros per person for five days in a single room 575 euros per person for five days in a double room 400 euros per accompanying person for five days in a double room Further details can be found on the Workshop Web page at http://jupiter.chem.uoa.gr/qscp8/ If you are interested in receiving further details on the Workshop, then please either return the form below to qscp8@chem.uoa.gr or complete the online pre-registration from at the above address. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Eighth European Workshop on "Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physics", to be held at Lefka Palace Hotel, The Island of Spetses, Greece Please send me further details when they become available. Details have been e-mailed to participants. --------------- PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH WORKSHOP The Proceedings of the QSCP-VI workshop held in Sofia, Bulgaria, were be published in the International Journal of Quantum Chemistry volume 89, number 4, 2002 entitled "Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physics". This volume contains 24 papers. ISSN 0020-7608 --------------- PROCEEDINGS OF THE FIFTH WORKSHOP The proceedings of the European Workshop on "Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physics" held Uppsala University, Sweden, in April, 2000, were published in the series "Advances in Quantum Chemistry" and entitled "New Perspectives in Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physics". The number of contributions received again necessitated publication of two volumes (volumes 39 and 40), which appeared in 2001.
