Perspectives for use of stem cells in chronic diseases- are we close to "cell therapy" applications? (applications in regenerative medicine)

Stem cells are derived from different sources: they can be derived from embryonic or adult tissues, autologous or heterologous, from bone marrow, fat tissue, etc. Extensive applications with stem cells were performed in animal models of disease (renal, neuronal, vascular, etc.), however their use in human patients is still rather limited due to the possibility of malignant transformation. In any case, their use in regenerative medicine is increasing and promises to substantially contribute for combating chronic diseases. There are positive results regarding the use of autologous neuroblasts in the case of spinal trauma resulting in paralysis.
