The lecture addresses the design and synthesis of new calixarenes that can associate with oxoanions, and their effectiveness at causing transfer from an aqueous to an organic phase. Binding sites for the cationic counterion are also considered, as are hydration effects. In particular the effect of pH changes on the transfer from an aqueous phase are considered. An overall evaluation of the effectiveness of calixarenes is presented.
